Bomber Command Memorial Appeal

Bomer-2

Of all the branches of the armed forces, Bomber Command faced the deadliest odds, with 55,573 killed, almost half of all those who flew on operations over Nazi Germany and occupied Europe.

Yet nearly 70 years on, their sacrifice remains unrecognised by any form of national monument in central London.

Artique Gallery has joined in partnership with the veterans of the Bomber Command Association (BCA) to help raise £3 million pounds towards the memorial.  The campaign aptly named “The Forgotten Heroes” was launched last October; to date a total of £ 1.6 million pounds has been raised from product sales, donations, events and kind donations from Daily Telegraph readers.

In May Westminster Council approved the planning permission for the memorial to be erected in Green Park Central London.

To help raise funds for the memorial Artique Gallery Publishers have launched a range of WWII aircraft cards and prints, which shows images from 1939 - 1945 as well as photographs of the last remaining Lanacasters, Spitfires and Hurricanes still in service.

As a company our aim is to distribute these commemorative cards and prints to all large department stores, garden centers and RAF museums across the UK.  We have already had a great response to our cards, and we would like to thank Squires Garden Centre Group, the Garden Centre Group, Garsons Farm Group, Tate Garden Centre Group and the Tillington Garden Group for their superb support with this campaign.  Now that Westminster Council has given the planning permission it is essential that we raise the remaining £2million pounds by the end of December 2010.

We appreciate the help and support from all of our other companies that are purchasing our cards, and we can only hope that for the next crucial few months we are able to raise this much needed £2 million, for our heroes of Bomber Command who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

The Sir Sydney Camm Appeal

Hurricane

The Hawker Hurricane, work horse of the Battle of Britain and with more ‘kills’ to its name even than the Spitfire, was designed by Sir Sydney Camm, whose name nevertheless remains virtually unknown outside the world of aviation.

This, however, is soon to change. The aim of the Sir Sydney Camm Appeal is to raise a £500,000 capital base to fund a scholarship in Sir Sydney’s name, awarded annually to help aspiring young aeronautical engineers make a start on their career.

Sir-Syndey-Camm-logosm

Camm, often described as the “Brunel of aeronautical engineers”, was born in Windsor in 1893, and his remarkable achievements led him to become arguably the world’s finest ever aircraft designer.

In this Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary year the Appeal will also fund the installation of a full size replica Hurricane in Alexandra Gardens, Windsor as a permanent memorial in his home town.
